Personalize outbound SMS and email messages with a per-lead product or service name by including a product column in your uploaded CSV.
Overview
When running an Engage Prospects campaign from a CSV upload, you can include a Product column in your file.
Whatever value you put in that column for each lead will automatically be substituted into your message template wherever you place the [[product]] tag. This allows each lead to receive a message personalized to the specific product or service they were quoted.
Step 1: Add a Product Column to Your CSV
Your CSV header can use any of the following column names. They all map to the product field.
| Accepted header names |
|---|
product |
product name |
productname |
product_name |
service |
service name |
servicename |
service_name |
item |
item name |
itemname |
Example CSV
firstName,lastName,phone,product
Jane,Smith,5551234567,Window Replacement
John,Doe,5559876543,Roof InspectionStep 2: Upload the CSV in Engage Prospects
Navigate to Marketing > SMS > Message Prospects > CSV Leads Upload (tab), choose your CRM config, and upload the CSV as usual.
Once uploaded, the preview table will show a Product column automatically, but only when at least one lead in the file has a product value.
If no leads have a product value, the column is hidden.
Step 3: Use [[product]] in Your Message Template
In your SMS or email message template, place [[product]] wherever you want the product name to appear.
The following tag formats are supported:
[[product]]_product_
Example message
Hi [[firstName]], this is a follow-up about your recent inquiry on [[product]]. We'd love to schedule a time to walk you through the details — reply YES to confirm. Each lead will receive the message with their specific product value filled in.
Notes
- If a lead in the CSV does not have a product value, the
[[product]]tag will be substituted with a blank. The tag is removed rather than left as-is. - The product value is carried through the full send pipeline, so it works the same whether you are sending SMS or email.
- You can verify the substitution worked by checking the outbound message log after the send completes.
